Rowlands Castle Tennis Club - Playing

Although only a small village club we try to cater for all your tennis playing needs:

Club Sessions

Joining a new club can be daunting and we are sure you will appreciate that in a long established club such as ours there are lots of regular "fours" already in place. But to help ensure that everyone, new and old members, good and not so good players, all get a chance to play we hold club sessions every Monday & Friday evening during the summer and every Saturday afternoon during the winter.

The club provides the balls and an organiser, who arranges suitable "fours". We usually play 7 games, then move the groups around so that during any one session you play with a variety of players of all standards. Don't worry if you think your game isn't very good - the whole point of club sessions is to help you to improve!

And club sessions are a good way of getting to know a lot of members and a great way to get invitations into the regular "fours"

American Tournaments

We hold a number of social American Tournaments during the year, usually on a Sunday afternoon. The idea of these tournamenst is that you play a series of short "matches" (often 6 games, but sometimes we play for a set time, say 20 mins). Each game is played with a different partner against different opposition. Prizes are awarded for the best male and best female player on the day, but most people just play to enjoy the great selection of homemade cakes served during the afternoon! Players of all abilities play so don' be afraid to join in - but make sure you respond to the entry notices promptly as the available places are usually taken up very quickly.

Club Tournament

For the more competitively minded we run a annual club knockout tournament. As well as the standard, unrestricted mens ladies and mixed events, where you choose your own partners for the doubles, we also have some age restricted events, with partners drawn at random. These events are often the most competitive of all - and certainly produce some high quality finals. Entry forms are sent to all members during March, with the draws being made in April and matches played throughout the summer, culminating in a Finals weekend in September.

Le
ague Tennis

Until quite recently the club didn't play any league tennis. But in 2010 it was decided to enter a Men's and a Mixed team in the local Portsmouth & District League. Early results were satisfactory and through popular demand a Ladies team was entered in 2011. Full details of the League and our results appear in separate section of the web site, but in summary the Men's team finished second in the Summer League Division 3 in 2012 and won the Winter League Division 3 in 2012/13, the Ladies team won Division 3 of the Summer League in 2012 while the Mixed team finished as Runners up in Summer League Division 3 in 2012 and were also Runners Up in the Winter League Division 3 in 2012/13!

We are always looking for new players so if you are interested in playing league tennis please check the relevant pages on the web site and contact the team captain(s) as appropriate.
